Knockknock linen8/26/2023 J Crew: I have an old J Crew graphic tee.The box cut tee has the opposite problem where it’s too soft/drapey and doesn’t hold its shape well (see photo below). I used to think the weird stiffness was OK and normal until I got the Not Perfect Linen stuff, which is dense without being stiff, and feels much nicer to the hand. I’ve always machine-washed it on cold and air-dried it. The collared shirt has a fairly dense weave, but is so so stiff. Everlane: I have the collared shirt and box cut tee.Ikea: The duvet is thinner than the West Elm stuff, but still good, at least for bed linens. What I mean by this is that when you bunch up the material in your hand, it bounces back when you open your hand. West Elm: The sheet set has a good density, and has a nice “springiness” that I’m starting to associate with good quality linen. Not Perfect Linen: The skirt has the densest weave compared to everything else, hands down.Ranking it compared to the other linen I own, purely subjectively: The weave of the skirt is very dense, and as a higher test of quality, even the lighter weave of the scarf feels sturdy. You can see the crosshatch of the linen threads, with some imperfections and variations, but without being patchy. I really really like the quality of the Not Perfect Linen material. Shipping from Lithuania to California took an additional 9 days after that. The production lead time is 4-6 weeks, so I was happy I receive the shipment notification email after just a month. I eventually ended up ordering a skirt and scarf from Not Perfect Linen, and here’s my review! I first heard about Knock Knock Linen on JENKR, and from there found a whole bunch of Lithuanian linen sellers on Etsy, all of them with a similar rustic sort of aesthetic. I’ve been using linen sheets on my bed, and it’s heavenly, and also bought a few linen tops from Everlane and J Crew. So my wardrobe has slowly been adapting to the heat in the form of lots and lots of hats (you’re welcome, mom) and linen. I know people say that humidity is bad, but I swear the dry heat out here is even worse. I grew up in the northeast, and sure it does get hot and humid there, but nothin’ like California. Humboldt fog cheese nutrition8/26/2023 So, try these varieties with the air of a connoisseur: in a discriminating fashion and as a cherished delicacy, not a gooey afterthought on a pile of pasta. Then add plates of apple and pear slices, assorted baskets of breads, and a cheese board with five or six selections. Set out dishes of olives, Marcona almonds, asparagus wrapped in smoked salmon, and fresh figs. And a few well-selected cheeses make entertaining easy. Flower in pot cast iron bookends8/26/2023 “Typically, I will look at the handle first,” says Robert Kellermann, who is a descendant of Joseph Lodge, founder of Lodge Cast Iron, and the company’s primary source for identifying vintage or otherwise unmarked cast iron. When you find a cast-iron pan whose provenance is unclear, there are certain characteristics that will clue you in to its maker and age. Oftentimes, the letters and numbers you’ll find on the bottom of a vintage pan denote a pattern number or correspond to a particular cooking surface on a stove the pan might’ve been sold with, and unusual notches could be a maker’s mark incorporated into the piece to identify the actual person who crafted it. For example, a Wagner skillet made to sell in a specific store would forgo the Wagner label and rely on its signature characteristics for brand identification. Each brand had a well-conceived signature design, but for many brands of yesteryear, where consistency ended and mystery unfolded was with markings.Ī skillet’s markings could range from the company’s name to a set of cryptic letters and numbers to mysterious notches to nothing at all, and much of the inconsistency was a result of marketing. They made glassy smooth interiors, handles molded to seamlessly fit into a gripped hand, and walls and pour spouts whose curvature was perfected down to minute angles. The makers of today’s vintage cast iron were meticulously detailed craftsmen. A careful look at the logo on a vintage pan-if it has one-can help determine its age.
